Hi sorry for my english, but I'm not sure my french is good enough to write these things. Feel free to write in french if you prefer, I can read it really well.

I had a Livebox 4 + an ONT Huawei EchoLife HG8010Hv3 GPON Terminal. The crappy Livebox4 it has been replaced by another crappy Livebox 5, but I still have the ONT.

However if I'm trying to connect the ONT to the fiber I don't have the internet connection.

I remember that the "identifiant deconnection" and the "mot de passe" where different at the moment of the subscription.

I can access the configuration of the ONT via 192.168.4.254 and I'm wondering if it is possible to use the current password of the Livebox 5 on the ONT it will work.

You can try to plug the ONT into the ethernet port №4 of the livebox 5, and also should replace vendor id, serial and hardware version in the ONT you want to use, with values copied from the ONT menu in the livebox 5 web interface

hi, thanks for your answer! Even if I'm able to log into the ONT admin interface, I cannot change the serial because the field is disabled. I tried to remove the type="disabled" from the inspect but the value is not saved.

I was reading other posts in this forum and I have a question. Is the Huawei ONT better than the one in the Livebox5? Because the alternative is to use the Livebox5 as the ONT and attach an external router directly to the it.

using the lb5 is not worse than the lb4 (it may be a bit faster as the ont is linked at 2.5gb/s with the internal 1 gb/switch and several pcs connected),

I removed it and replaced with an openwrt router and a an G-010S-P sfp ont.

Thanks this a good suggestion.
I'm willing to change my router with a 10GbE to be able to connect my Synology Nas and have 10gbe connection in my local network.
Buying the G-010S-P will be a first step then, right? Do I have to call Orange to use it or just copy the serial of nthe Livebox and use it?

AliExpress is your friend.

But beware, you'll go deep down the rabbit hole. You'll have to hack your new ONT before it works, and spend quite a bit of money (new ONT, new router) to be able to take advantage of the 2Gb download bandwidth from Orange (details in thread here: https://lafibre.info/remplacer-livebox/guide-de-connexion-fibre-directement-sur-un-routeur-voire-meme-en-2gbps/).

If you're looking have an 10G network at home, I'd suggest only getting a 10G switch which are much cheaper (from Mikrotik for example).

To improve your Internet connection quality by getting rid of your Livebox, there are several options available and documented in the forum. You can replace it with an Ubiquiti Edgerouter or a Mikrotik router, or even a OpenWRT-based router. To connect the ONT, you can either use a copper/SFP adapter (MC-220L from TP LINK) or a compatible switch with an SFP port (see thread here: https://lafibre.info/remplacer-livebox/index-des-equipements-compatibles-avec-sfp-ont-dorange-sercomm-fgs202/).

As fttmeh says, going for the SFP solution you might face a steep learning curve, mostly for nothing if you are not interested in breaking the 1Gbps uplink barrier.
You won't anyway if it is to plug the SFP ONT to a device which is not HGSMII (2.5G) compatible. There's really not so many.

Besides, i would strongly advise against Alibaba/express , as you will likely get ZTE-clones which -might- sync with orange OLT, but are so badly manufactured, some even jamming the laser signal, bringing down the whole neighborhood periodically.

If you are just seeking to replace LB5 with another router, just unlock the Huawei ONT, replicate LB5 serial, and go for the router solution that suits you most (Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, openWRT, xxSense, ...)
Keep in mind that even the router setup alone is far from trivial because of some orange specifics (VLAN 802.1q priority for DHCP requests only, exotic DHCP options, auth string calculation).

The overall is very instructive but it's up to you to decide if it is worth the journey

Well your previous ONT has been unprovosionned on the OLT. I did replace my livebox with an edge router lite 3 with the external ONT that came with my livebox, and with the exception of the DSCP field for DHCP it was really easy to do.
I would recommend you to try using your old ONT.
You can try to call Orange (3900) and explain to them that your appartement/house has a really narrow space around your FTTH socket. Tell them you do have to use an external ONT that will be connected with an Ethernet cable to your Livebox. Even if you still have your old one, they might require you to use a new ONT they will send to you (cannot guarantee that), because it might be how their process works.
