Replace Livebox v4 with Unifi USG
« le: 24 octobre 2017 à 19:18:28 »
Hello everyone,

I realise this is a french forum, but if anyone could help me out that would be great :)

I've been searching the web trying to figure out if its possible to replace my Orange Livebox v4 with the Unifi USG.

My objectives are:
- Replace Livebox v4 with Unifi USG
- Maintain the TV (and phone, if possible) functionality
- Connect using DHCP + DHCPv6 (not PPPoE)
- Utilise IPv6

My Livebox is connected to the GPON terminal. I have a very good connection (900 download, 200+ upload) and no complaints with the livebox, but it would be nice if I could use some Ubiquiti hardware.

Has anyone successfully accomplished this? How do your network speeds compare to the livebox?

I came across this tutorial and it did not work:
https://www.choiz.fr/2017-08-26-remplacer-sa-livebox-par-un-unifi-security-gateway-3p-(usg).html

Merci beaucoup!

- Jon

EDIT: I have uploaded a gif of the error I was getting earlier today: https://imgur.com/a/JZgoH

Hey there,

Depending on how confortable you are with following a french guide, someone here already wrote up a fairly extensive guide on how to set this up, which you can find here:

https://lafibre.info/remplacer-livebox/le-guide-complet-pour-usgusg-pro-internet-tv-livebox-ipv6/

There are also a lot of guides here on how to set this up on the ERL 3, which I imagine is fairly similar in terms of settings to the USG line of products.

Hope that helps :)

Bonjour Geoffrey,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I have been following that exact guide. I have managed to get internet access working, but I am not sure that everything was set up correctly.

My Wifi speeds are great, I am getting 600+ Mbps download on my AP AC-HD, but my ethernet connection is really slow (it will not break 95Mbps every time I run a speed test). I have attached screenshots of both the wireless, and wired speed tests. Also, it seems IPv6 is not set up correctly. When I ran the dibbler.deb file, the program asked me some questions and I was not sure how to answer them. For example:

"The dibbler client can request that the DHCPv6 server supplies additional configuration parameters: 1. dns, 2. domain, 3. none of the above"

I just clicked return in hopes that a default configuration would be set, but I am not sure that was correct thing to do.

Not sure if anyone else has encountered these issues.

Your issue with ethernet speed is 99.99% going to be that at some point in your wired network, something somewhere is syncing at 100Mbps and not 1Gbps. You can check what your PC synced at by right clicking on the ethernet connection in "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections" and selecting "status". It should show "1.0Gbps" if everything is OK. If that shows the right speed, go through your network from your router all the way to your PC and check that every switch along the way is syncing at 1Gbps (you can ussually tell by the LEDs on the ports).

I can't help you with the IPv6 bit of things unforturnatly :(

You were exactly correct! It says 100Mbps in my control panel on windows. It even tells me that the port connection is 100Mpbs in the Unifi control panel. I didn't even think to check this haha. I tried another ethernet cable and the problem is fixed! Very strange since the previous cable is Cat.5e UTP. Aren't those cables rated for 1Gb?

Thank you so much for helping me solve the first problem! Hopefully someone can help me with the IPv6 issues.

Cheers!

I've had issues with cat5e cables not handling 1Gbps for some unknown reason, even had a cat5e cable that worked for years, then suddenly decided not to one morning ! I put it down to wear/tear of the cable. I just buy cat6 cables now and i've never had those issues with them, so heh, I just shrug it off :D

Hello,

No, I have not yet figured out how to configure the phone :-\  My IPv6 is working consistently now. My next step is to configure the TV, and then finally configure the phone. Did you manage to get your TV functioning?
