Hors-sujet extrait de Scaleway / Hopus / Orange qui a mis en évidence une saturation de certains flux Cogent vers Orange AS5511
Bjr à tous,
Depuis quelques jours (plus longtemps?) je remarque que le chemin entre Orange FR AS3215 (totalité ? certaines tranches seulement?) et Scaleway est devenu "bizarre".
On passe par du TI Sparkle à l'aller et Cogent au retour. Le ping a également augmenté (15ms paris-paris).
Le lien direct par Hopus ne semble plus fonctionnel.
Une explication ? Une panne ?
Perso je passe par Sparkle dans le sens Orange => Scaleway et par Cogent dans le sens inverse

Pas de saturation le soir ?
La saturation se voit avec une latence qui augmente ou des pertes de paquets.
Il est plus fiable de tester un serveur et non pas un routeur, donc faire du bout en bout.

Je ne crois pas que Cogent sature côté Scaleway, Orange laisserait Cogent saturer ? (Ça me parait improbable).

Je peut faire des traceroutes (mtr) dans le sens Cogent => Orange en IPv4.
Vous me conseillez quoi comme IPv4 Orange à tester ? (AS5511 ou AS3215 situé en France et les IPv4 doivent répondre à l'ICMP)
Je ferais des tests en heure creuse et en heure chargée sur les IPv4 que vous proposez (en IPv6, je ne peut pas tester Cogent, je passe par Level3)

Des clients (FTTH par ex) Orange ? Tu dois avoir qqs IPs dans le Smokeping ?

Yams, client Orange à Saint-Raphaël (83) s'est proposé. Il a même un serveur iPerf3.
Si d'autres sont intéressé, sachez que je propose de ne pas divulguer votre IPv4.

Dommage que le seul tier 1 français soit connu pour ses saturations.
Et dommage pour les clients orange d’avoir le choix entre OTI ou OTI :(

Les tests sont maintenant lancés 4 fois par jour par la crontab, à 3h00, 13h00, 17h00 et 22h00

C'est chaud quand même. Il y a quoi comme destinations "importantes" qui passent par Cogent depuis AS3215 ? (et donc qui font 3215->5511->174)

Scaleway (depuis qu'il a quitté Hopus), mais aussi beaucoup d'acteurs de petite taille et probablement quelques gros. C'est compliqué de vérifier par où passe le trafic vu qu'il faut une connexion depuis l'hébergeur en question.
Actuellement le saturation observée ne dégrade pas la vidéo, même en 4k, donc c'est plutôt indolore pour les clients pour le moment.
Un point d'attention : Il y a plusieurs liens entre deux tiers1 et ils ne sont pas tous remplis au même niveau.
Il est donc impossible de généraliser ce que j'observe entre mon serveur Adeli et la ligne de Yams.
A noter que lafibre.info n'est pas affecté, car en IPv6, Adeli utilise Level3 pour joindre Orange (d'où ma demande d'IPv4) et pour le trafic IPv4 de lafibre.info je passe par MilkyWan. Le serveur est connecté à deux réseau, j'ai une interface 1 Gb/s du serveur sur le réseau Adeli (pour IPv6 et aussi ces tests) et une interface 1 Gb/s sur le réseau MilkyWan pour le trafic IPv4 du forum. L'AS est donc différent entre l'IPv4 et l'IPv6, ce qui est pratique en cas de problème sur un des deux réseaux: lafibre.info reste accessible des clients qui ont une double pile IPv4+IPv6.

De mon coté, voici les résultats des tests de débit Adeli => Cogent => Orange 5511 => Orange 3215 avec la ligne FttH de Yams :

Les débits sont plutôt bon vers 22h00 et on a des mauvais résultats avec Cubic sur d'autres tranches horaires.
Bref, j'ai plus l'impression de démontrer que BBR est plus performant que Cubic, plutôt que de montrer une saturation du peering Cogent => Orange.
J'ai estimé que l'interconnexion devrait être le plus chargée vers 22h00, je me suis peut-être trompé, ce n'est peut-être pas la typologie de trafic entre Orange et Cogent.
